MySQL v4.1 to v5 Update - Shared/Reseller Hosting Services
We will be upgrading from MySQL v4.1 to v5 for all shared and reseller hosting services on Wednesday Febuary 4th around 10pm EST.
Please note that once this upgrade is complete we will not be switching back to v4.1. MySQL v5 has been production stable for some time, though it takes a while for scripts/applications to catch up. We beleive its time to upgrade our entire infrastructure to support the latest MySQL release and recently have had multiple requests from customers... so we're listening to you! :)
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. You should not see any affects directly within your applications or databases, though this will greatly reduce server resources usages as MySQL v5 is much more cpu friendly and better optimized then v4.1. Also once this is complete on Feb. 5th if your web applications etc have the available option to select MySQL v4.1 or v5 you can now update their options to v5 so they make use of the added changes.
Performance reviews between the two can be found at: http://www.mysqlperformanceblog.com/files/presentations/UC2006-MySQL-5.0-vs-4.1.pdf
Plese let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and thanks for your continued business from your Friend Neighborhood Hosting Partner... HostWW!
Best Regards,
The Host World Wide Team.
